About Us

Bringing Art Education and Appreciation to Central Montana

Founded in 1971 when a group of women (the local Montana Institute of the Arts chapter) purchased a carriage house at auction for $1000, the Lewistown Art Center is a long established community hub of craft and culture. With a rich history of exhibiting Montana artists and teaching Central Montana's youth, the Lewistown Art Center is currently known for its dynamic community organizing, contemporary exhibits, and curated shop of regional art and craft.

A cornerstone of our nonprofit work - which includes year-round low-cost art education for all ages and beloved cultural events like Shakespeare in the Park -- is our dedication to providing a platform for area artists. The Lewistown Art Center proudly represents more than 150 craftspeople in our Sales Gallery and hosts rotating displays of the finest contemporary artists in the region. Imbued with the authenticity and passion of their makers, Central Montana arts are beautiful, original artworks from the heart of Montana.
