Adult Programs

We offer a variety of hands-on classes, workshops and gatherings throughout the year, led by some of our most talented local artists and craftspeople.  Come hone your skills, learn a few new techniques, and meet some friends and neighbors!


Workshop Series
with Dixie Sullivan


In this three-part workshop series, participants will learn about the health benefits of safe, tonic herbs and get hands-on experience making their own herbal creations including creating an herbal infusion, a botanically infused facial mask, and nutritious adaptogen treats. These workshops are meant to bring meaningful experience and knowledge of herbs into everyday life through easy, traditional recipes, interesting stories & facts, and personal creations that nourish, rejuvenate and support the body while cultivating positivity and peace in the mind and inspiration in the heart. Participants will also engage the body’s sensory organs to obtain a deeper understanding of the quality of the herbs & constituents within them.

Cost is $15 for each class or $30 for all three classes. All materials are provided except as indicated in class descriptions below. Pre-registration is required, please stop by the Art Center to sign up and pay course fees.

Part One
Herbal Infusions: Drink in Health 

Saturday, Sept. 14, 1-3pm 

  • Understand what an herbal infusion is and how it is different than herbal tea 

  • Learn about the different kinds of nutrient dense herbs that are safe, increase energy levels, uplift mood, and nourish & support the body (well-being and vitality) 

  • Learn about the plants’ roles woven into history 

  • Sample a variety of herbal infusions 

  • Use the body’s senses to gain insight into the herbs & yourself through an organoleptic evaluation

  • Create your own herbal infusion to take home 

Please bring a quart mason jar with a lid, and if you have a scale, please bring that also — no worries if you do not have one.

Part Two
Beauty from the Sea: Plant-Based Rejuvenating Facial Masks

Saturday, Sept. 21, 1-3pm 

  • Bring an earth-friendly spa treatment into your home! 

  • Dive into the ancient art of thalassotherapy 

  • Learn to create an all-natural facial serum with no harmful or toxic chemicals 

  • Receive a step-by-step beauty routine that cleanses, tones, and brightens the skin 

  • Explore the concept of plant-based beauty products

  • Take home a facial mask to indulge and replenish the skin 

Please bring a 4 oz. glass bottle or container with a lid

Part Three
Delightful Adaptogens: Herbs to Nourish the Body During Stressful Times

Saturday, Sept 28, 1-3pm

  • Learn about the restorative benefits of adaptogenic herbs and how they support the body in these busy, hectic times 

  • Learn how to incorporate adaptogens into food for herbal support

  • We will get into the kitchen so to speak and create adaptogen treats from a classic recipe! 

  • Learn about different adaptogen herbs including their properties and energetics to personalize the recipe & get the most benefit 

  • Use your senses to gain useful knowledge of the herbs & yourself through an organoleptic evaluation


Instructor Dixie Sullivan is a budding herbalist with a passion for plants & fungi, health, cooking, art and beauty in the world. Her background consists of herbal medicine from various schools and philosophies, conservation & forestry, gardening, wild foraging, fermentation projects, mushroom growing, and long trips in the backcountry. Well-versed in botany, mycology, and phyto-chemistry, she is continually fascinated by the relationship between people, plants, and health. She looks forward to serving as a bridge, connecting people with plants and inspiring students to try new ways of looking at the world.


Acrylic Paint Pour Workshop
with Instructor Cindy Berg

Make Your Masterpiece - No Experience Necessary!!

 Learn the techniques to create your own marbled, mesmerizing works of art in this 3-hour beginners workshop!
We’ll provide all the materials and instruction necessary to finish two 8x10 canvases. This workshop is appropriate for participants aged 13 and up.

Sat. October 5th, Noon-3pm
Cost:  $35 ($30 for Art Center members)
Pre-registration is required and seating is limited!


SNAC:  Social Night at the Art Center!

This is our chance to kick back in a low-pressure atmosphere, meet new friends, learn some new skills and let our creativity run wild!  Talented local artists lead the group in "No Experience Necessary" projects, from canvas painting to ceramics, and send participants home with their very own creation.  Cost generally runs $20-$40.  Festivities start at 6:30pm, with all supplies and light appetizers provided.  Bring your own beverages...and bring your friends!

Acrylic Sip & Paint
Wednesday Oct. 16, 6:30-9pm

Join us for a lively, low-pressure night of color and creativity - absolutely no experience necessary! Instructor Deb Hayes will lead us step by step through the process of creating a seasonally-themed masterpiece on canvas, ready to take home and put in your gallery!
Cost of the class is $40 ($35 for LAC members!) and includes all materials and instruction, plus light appetizers. Bring along your favorite beverages and an open mind...we can't wait to see you there!

Holiday Wreath Making
Weds. Nov 20 & Sat. Nov 23, 6:30-9pm

We're back with another round of everybody's favorite holiday craft event! Bring along your favorite beverage as we learn to weave live boughs and ribbons into dazzling seasonal displays. We'll provide all the materials for you to make your own evergreen wreath, with step-by-step instructions and some yummy holiday snacks. Cost is $45, ($40 for members of the Lewistown Art Center).

Whether you're a dabbler or a pro, you'll love the LAC's Play with Clay series! Learn ceramic & pottery techniques with a group or experiment on your own. We'll provide personalized, professional guidance and instruction, with fun project ideas each month. This series is perfect for ALL SKILL LEVELS, ages 12 and up
